BIK BOK RUNWAY AWARD 2017 was the grand finale of Oslo Runway SS18 on August 24. Five finalists showed their collections to a packed Sentralen, before the jury named Michael Olestad the winner.

The jury’s justification was as follows:

«The designer’s vision is clear, and we love the use of colors, materials, and the asseccories – which all adds up to a very cohersive and well rounded approach to design. It has a high end feel and sense of modernity, and we love the underlying eleganse that will appeal to a wide range of women. The designer’s intuitive approach makes the result feel poetic. We also love the way the desinger places the brand’s identity firmly in Oslo. In our opinion this illustrates an important understanding of how the local is the new global in today’s fashion world. But most importantly, this designer has achieved something that all designers strive to do, which is to create something that feels effortless.»

Michael Olestad received a prize of 100,000 NOK earmarked for creating a new collection or production of designs for sale. In addition, he won the chance to present a full collection at Oslo Runway in February 2018 and a mentorship from Bik Bok. “I’m so incredibly happy!”, said Olestad after being announced as the winner, adding that he was tired, but proud and relieved. He will next hold a showroom in Paris before starting preparations for his Oslo Runways show in February.
