It’s really fun to work as a creative in Norway, especially in fashion, as we feel there is still room for more Norwegian brands within both jewelry and clothing. For us, it became important to find gaps in the market where we could contribute with our brand, so that we could build Boygal with a purpose, and not because we just think it's fun to make things. We experience that there is a lot of support among people, and that people cheer for small businesses. This is motivating and inspiring. We are very inspired by people and their different and unique characteristics.
For us, it is very important to contribute to a more sustainable development in the production of consumer goods. We believe that sustainability is not just about the material itself, but the entire life cycle of the product from idea to finished product. We place great emphasis on quality in our products, so that they last a long time, and so that our customers are left with a good feeling. We also produce under ethical working conditions and in small quantities so that we are left with the least possible surplus products. Another important thing in sustainability is the people we design for, we want to contribute to a more inclusive and open fashion industry, and that is why we never emphasize gender or persona when we design products.
We believe that Norwegians still have a bit to learn from the rest of the world when it comes to design, especially in fashion. We may have to dare to break a little out of the Scandinavian minimalist style, and challenge ourselves a little to be able to take more space globally. There are very many good designers in Norway, and several have already become quite established abroad. We believe it is important to get inspiration from those who have paved the way for new designers, but also to think in novel ways so we do not repeat ourselves as Norwegian brands.
We wanted to start Boygal to have a project together that we could run alongside our jobs. We currently work in large companies within graphic design and fashion, so for us it was important to have something of our own to work with, and to get an outlet for creative ideas and ambitions.
Our days are very different, we are the only two people working in Boygal, so we do everything from A to Z by ourselves. One day we sit with tricky things like accounting, the next day we might visit retailers and deliver restock on products in stores, and other days we sit with concepts and ideas for future collections.
